A Place For You

To the members and friends of Scottsville United Methodist Church, I bring you greetings of joy and peace in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Almighty God,

and the Holy Spirit, who is always with us.

What images come to mind when you hear the word “home?”  For some, the word “home” conjures up images of a hometown where we spent many of the early years of our lives.

For others, the word “home” brings back  memories of a particular house where we can mentally go through every room and remember the people, the furnishings, the decorations,

the smells, and even the views from the windows.  Some feel at home in the mountains or by the ocean.  Others feel at home in a favorite museum, a favorite restaurant, or in

a park or playground.  Others feel at home when they curl up in an afghan on a cold winter night with a good book and a mug of coffee.

There is probably no more influential a concept than that of “home.”  Dr. Paul Tournier wrote a powerful book entitled “A Place for You.”  In it, Dr. Tournier reminds us that home

is a place where we belong.  Home is a place where we can be ourselves, where we don’t have to wear a mask, or try to be someone we’re not.  It is a place where we can be

ourselves in the firm assurance that we are loved unconditionally.  It is a place where we are accepted for who we are.  Home is a unique place with a very special group of people.

Scottsville United Methodist Church is that kind of place!  We are a welcoming community of faith that gives each of us the freedom to be ourselves.  Scottsville Church is a community

of Christians in whose presence gifts are called forth, challenges are made, invitations are offered, and friendships are nurtured.  It is a community of faith that challenges us to reach

out to a world in need in the name of Christ.

In our mobile, transient society, Scottsville Church has become a family for many of us.  It is a place where we are loved unconditionally.  It is a place where we can experience

the love of God manifested, revealed in Jesus Christ.  It is a wonderful place called home.

Lent, as well as Easter, is a great time of the year for coming home to the warm fellowship of our Scottsville United Methodist Church family and to the very heart of God.

See you in church!

Peace,

Dennis Keen,

Pastor
